Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has described their main rally in Masaka as the “biggest ever”.
The rally included a procession across on the main street that paralysed Masaka town for the whole day.
In a tweet, Kizza Besigye, also the party whose flag bearer said: “Mbale knocked off Kampala, now Masaka knocks off Mbale. It’s our biggest ever! It’s amazing, thanks for the support.”
After the procession, Besigye headed to Mayors Gardens in Masaka town where he addressed the mammoth crowd.
“I have been indebted to the people of Masaka since 2006,” Besigye told the cheering crowd.
“When I told you that you were the lucky ones who are going to see Museveni passing by while going back to Rwakitura…I am here to tell you that what I promised you is about to happen.”
This is the time now, Besigye told the crowd, adding, “dislodging a dictator is like uprooting a big tree”.
He said to uproot the big tree, one starts by cutting the roots, hewing with an axe and then shaking it to the ground.
“Ladies and gentlemen since 2006 I have never rested. I have been shaking the tree and it’s falling down.”
“Now you can easily see the roots at the surface and the people who have been seated comfortably on branches of the tree are jumping out fast in fear of falling down with a tree,” he added.
Besigye has stood three times [now is the fourth time] against Museveni losing all to the incumbent.
He blames his losses on vote rigging by the ruling government.
Opinion polls continue to show him as the dominant opposition figure.
