Nigerian singer Yami Alade and Tanzania’s Ali Kiba are among a list of top notch acts set to perform at next week’s Uganda Entertainment Awards (UEA).
The star duo will share the stage with Uganda’s own heavyweights including Ziza Bafana, Sheebah Karungi, Irene Ntale and the legendary Madoxx Sematimba at the Aug 19 Serena Hotel – Kampala show.
Haloha the awards’ CEO. revealed to us in an exclusive interview today that the star duo is expected to jet into the country on Wednesday next week after which they will address a press conference ahead of the Friday event.
It’s the first time both artistes are performing in Uganda, and their confirmed presence at the second annual UEA is already posing up a storm among anxious fans.
A BET and MOBO award nominee, 27-year-old Alade is essentially known for her hit single Johnny, which continues to rule airwaves and dance floors across the continent two years after its release.
Ali Kiba on the other hand has scored big hits across East Africa with such memorable songs as Cinderella, Mwana and Aje among others over a decade-long career.
Incepted last year, the UEA seek to transform Uganda’s entertainment industry by celebrating outstanding players on a global platform.
A total of 47 awards will be given out at this year’s glitzy ceremony across a wide-range of categories including Music, Film, TV, Fashion and Sports.
Sheebah Karungi is leading the pack with a whooping five nods. The Kisasi Kimu hitmaker is eyeing awards for Artiste of the Year, Best Female Artiste, Best Dance Performance, Best Dancehall Artiste and Best Video (Nkwatako)
It will be a good opportunity for Ugandan artistes to showcase their talent and red carpet skills to the world as the show will become the second African event to be covered by American entertainment giant E! after the South African Saftas in March.
This year’s awards are sponsored by Pemba Sports Africa Ltd with DStv, Vision Group and Sweet Lips being some of the other partners.
Tickets to the event are selling at Shs 50,000 and Shs 100,000 for ordinary and VIP seats, respectively. Corporate tables go for Shs 3m each. You can now buy your ticket online at jumia.com or easyticket.co.ug as well as Serena Hotel.
