Police in Mpigi District, has arrested a woman for allegedly burning her five-year-old niece over a boiled egg.
The officer in-charge of Buwama Police Station Ben Igama, told the media that the 29 year-old mother of four and resident of Nabyewanga village in Nkozi Sub-county was arrested by police following a tip off by a neighbour who saw the girl writhing in pain.
Investigations showed that the suspect first beat up the girl and later burnt her using a piece of wood after she reportedly found the girl eating a boiled egg she had left in the cupboard.
Igama condemned the act and urged parents to desist from using corporal punishments as a means of disciplining their children.
According to Igama, the woman will be arraigned in court and charged with negligence, child abuse and causing grievous bodily harm once investigations are complete.
