Winnie defends musicians, backs anti-NRM demos

Oxfam boss, Winnie Byanyima, says she supports peaceful demonstrations that specifically targets NRM members not musicians.

“FDC calls for boycott of Museveni, musicians’ activities…Misguided,” Winnie tweeted Wednesday.

“Musicians should not be target,” she added.

At the start of the week, FDC announced a stay-home campaign that will see a boycott of NRM activities as well as President Yoweri Museveni.

On Thursdays, the officials and their supporters will stay at home and boycott all activities in Kampala.

On Tuesdays, they will go to the party head offices and pray for the country.

FDC spokesperson, Ssemujju Nganda, also asked the population to boycott musicians who sung “Tubonga Nawe”, a song praising president Museveni.

“No, I AM for boycotts, peaceful demos etc but which target NRM not artists and voters [not musicians],” Winnie argued.

She said the targeting of musicians was misguided because they are not responsible for the outcomes of the 2016 general elections.

Meanwhile, Winnie also warned the chief justice Bart Katureebe to be vigilant while handling a petition against Museveni by Amama Mbabazi because the “world is watching”.
