Winnie Byanyima, is the wife to political opposition figure Kizza Besigye, the former chairman of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) political party in Uganda.
They are the parents of one son named Anselm.
Byanyima, also executive director of Oxfam International confused tweeps when she stated that she is not “Mrs Besigye”.
Alice Ruhindi, Amama Mbabazi’s sister-in-law asked Byanyima on Twitter: “@Winnie_Byanyima so when do you become Mrs Besigye? Lady!! What happened to the mirror I sent you?”
Winnie replied: “I am not Mrs Besigye period. Does it bother you?”
Jannette Mugisha, another tweep, who was not satisfied pushed on: “Madam @Winnie_Byanyima isn’t @kizzabesigye1 your husband? Just for clarity….. I respect both of you…”
“KB [Kizza Besigye] is my spouse,” Winnie replied.
“He has his name and I have mine. I hope this clarifies. Thanks for asking.”
Byanyima, and her husband Besigye were combatants in the National Resistance Army (NRA) during that war.
Though both Byanyima and her husband have since fallen out with the Ugandan president because of his repressive undemocratic rule despite his earlier stated convictions.
Well, we will leave it at that.
