Oxfam boss, Winnie Byanyima, says police is telling lies about releasing FDC candidate, Kizza Besigye, and escorting him back home.
Besigye was arrested this afternoon alongside FDC president Mugisha Muntu, Secretary for mobilisation, Ingrid Turinawe and chairman, Amb Wasswa Birigwa.
The operation was led by Felix Kaweesi, the Police Human Resource department boss.
The group was picked after police laid a siege at their party headquarters in Najjanankumbi along Entebbe road.
They were rushed to Nagalama police station in Mukono and detained.
Police later claimed it had set them free.
“Kizza Besigye and his colleagues are detained at Nagalama police station,” Winnie said in a tweet.
She added: “Its not true that Besigye was brought home by police. He and colleagues are held at Nagalama police station outside Kampala.”
FDC sources tell us there is an NRM “rigging centre” located at Serena hotel in Kampala.
Apparently, after addressing press at FDC offices, Besigye and team were heading to Serena Katonga hall to burst the tally centre.
The source says military has also been deployed to man the Serena facility.
