Besigye had spent three days at Moroto government prison after he was charge with treason on Friday.
According to the charge sheet, Besigye is accused of demanding for an international audit of 2016 general elections.
He is accused of planning to form a cabinet of his own and a parallel government.
Besigye is also accused of declaring himself winner of the 2016 general elections.
He is further accused of mobilising people to attend his swearing in ceremony and actually conducting the ceremony.
All crimes were reportedly committed within Wakiso and Kampala districts between February and May 2016.
This morning, Moroto Chief Magistrate granted state prayers to transfer Besigye from Moroto to Luzira Prisons where he will stay on remand until May 25, 2016.
The court has also transferred Besigye’s file to the Chief Registrar for reallocation to another court.
The application presented by Moroto Resident State Attorney, Gerald Amaro was based on four grounds:
That the state had intelligence information that some dissidents planned an attack on the Moroto Prison to take away Besigye.
That offences against Besigye were committed between Kampala and Wakiso, so he needed to be in a court near the witnesses in the matter.
That more accused persons to be joined on Kizza Besigye’s file live in Kampala and Wakiso districts.
And that Besigye, being a former presidential candidate deserved to be remanded in a prison with better facilities, and such are only in Luzira.
The court granted the application at about 12:30pm and the accused person was immediately airlifted from Moroto.
