Jinja Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Christopher Aine who returned from hiding a week ago.
Aine was a bodyguard for former presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi.
He went missing in December last year after allegedly committing crimes in Jinja and Ntungamo districts.
He showed up at Gen Salim Saleh’s house saying he has been hiding in Tanzania.
A warrant issued on Tuesday says Aine is wanted on two charges of assaulting police officers on duty.
Jinja Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe directed police to arrest Aine and produce him before her as soon as possible.
According to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, Aine’s case will now be handled at a political level.
The police chief Kale Kayihura has already written to the attorney general in a move to push Saleh to handover Aine for prosecution.
Aine is currently staying at a heavily-guarded motel in Mutundwe, a Kampala suburb.
The Observer reports that Aine negotiated a deal with government to provide insider information to security about the former prime minister’s political, personal and other activities.
