At the close of last week, angry voters in Ntungamo district directed their walking sticks and stones at the deputy attorney general, Mwesigwa Rukutana.
Rukutuna, according to The Observer, was in the company of a city businessman, Bob Kabonero.
Apparently, the deputy AG who earlier rejected joint candidates’ rallies, broke his own rule and stormed his rival, with Justus Karuhanga’s rally at Kashenyi, Ngoma Sub-county.
The two are vying for Rushenyi county NRM flag.
Karuhanga’s supporters were enraged on seeing Rukutuna at their candidate’s event upon which they “aimed their walking sticks at Rukutana and others threw stones”.
Scared out of his wits, Rukutuna set a long range marathon to the safety of his car.
He then hurried off to Rubaare police station to report how he survived lynching.
“He [Rukutana] personally assaulted my agent Jamada Mawanda and the people who were around called us to his rescue,” Karuhanga told the newspaper.
Karuhanga claims that when Rukutana saw him arriving with supporters, he (Rukutana) and Kabonero jumped into their cars to drive away but were intercepted by the irate mob.
“Rukutana’s bodyguard shot four times in the air and on the ground but my supporters overpowered and beat them [Rukutana, Kabonero and the bodyguard],” Karuhanga further told the newspaper.
He added that police arrested Mawanda and two other men only identified as Kawunda and Nasasira.
Karuhanga said he had decided to camp at the police station to secure the release of his agents.
