Rukungiri district LC5 chairperson, Charles Byabakama, has called upon electorates to choose leaders who will minimize on the use of teargas.
Talking to the mourners who had turned up for the burial of late John Batwekaho of Kyatoko Rukungiri municipality, Byabakama blamed government for putting teargas on the “food menu”.
Byabakama who was “washed away” in the October NRM primaries after losing to his political nemesis Katebire Andrewson, blamed NRM government for abusing people’s rights due to excessive teargas and announcing leaders who didn’t win elections.
The supposedly sad moment recorded unprecedented laughter as residents jeered at Byabakama who was once the driver of NRM during the time when DR Warren Besigye the FDC flag bearer was suffering in hands of the regime.
It should be remembered that Besigye is a native of Rukungiri but whenever he tries to meet his supporters, police stops him on grounds that he had not notified them.
The recent most recent incident saw police waylay Besigye in Masaka, arresting and detaining him.
Byabakama is said to have been behind such moves when he was still in the driving seat of NRM leadership in the district.
Byabakama who is now coming as an independent faces stiff competition from FDC’s Martin Byomuhangi and the NRM flag bearer who tossed him out of the seat.
