Oscar winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has released a trailer and part of the Disney production “Queen of Katwe”.
“Queen of Katwe” is about Phiona Mutesi who started as a little girl playing chess right here in Katwe until she became world champion.
In the movie, she is portrayed as Madina Nalwanga.
“It’s my absolute joy to share the first look of ‘Queen Of Katwe’. This movie proves that daring to dream is worth it,” Lupita tweeted.
“The new Queen Of Katwe trailer gives me chills!! A thrill that the movie is finally real! I can’t wait for you to learn the story of Phiona Mutesi & meet Madina Nalwanga!”
The poster will be coming this September!
Shot on location in Uganda, the movie was directed by Indian born Hollywood director, Mira Nair.
Selected parts of the movie were showed at the recent Amakula Kampala International Film Festival held at the Uganda Museum in Kampala.
“It’s my absolute joy to share the first look of @QueenOfKatwe!! This movie proves that daring to dream is worth it,” Lupita says of the movie on her Facebook page.
She said the movie is so close to her heart.
“It tells the story of Phiona Mutesi, who proves to us that daring to dream is worth it. I play her mother! Happy Mother’s Day!,” she said while dedicating the trailer to mothers on International Mother’s Day.
