Tired [perhaps from standing all day], residents in Bukanga Constituency in Isingiro District yesterday left President Yoweri Museveni speaking and walked away.
The president was campaigning in the district and busy preaching to supporters the motivation for NRM’s doctrine of unity.
“NRM preaches that we are all created in the image of God. That’s why we don’t discriminate,” the president said at an open venue.
“If you’re a cattle keeper, who buys your milk and beef? It’s the traders. Those who tell you to glorify tribes and religion are wrong and ignorant,” he continued.
As the president delved deeper and deeper into tribes and religions, people started stealing away from the venue, one after the other.
Slowly, a procession formed on a small path leaving the rally venue.
In July 2015, a reasonable number of Muslims walked out on Museveni at a prayer gathering in Masaka district.
Dozens of Muslims walked out of Eid-Al-Fitr prayers at Masaka Central Mosque claiming that the religious gathering had turned into a political campaign.
They walked out as President Yoweri Museveni delivered his speech to the congregation, gathered to commemorate the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
According to a video we have received, people in Isingiro district are also seen walking away back to their homes while the president is still on the podium speaking.
Watch the video here:
Despite the humiliating walkout, the president continued speaking, diving into self-praise.
“Now, Rutooma, Rwangabo, Ndizi all have electricity.”
Isingiro has four Health Centre IVs, 17 Health Centre IIIs, and 33 Health Centre IIs, he reminded the locals.
“There are two sub-counties without Health Centre IIIs; Mbaale and Rushaha. They will get.”
He also promised to solve the problem of water saying his government will help the residents get water from River Kagera.
“It is shared with Tanzania and we wanted to build a valley dam but this project will be planned better with the new President of Tanzania.”
On the side of roads, he said Kikagati-Birongo was tarmacked and plans to tarmac Isingiro-Ntantamuki-Rakai road.
“Isingiro District will also get a new hospital. People of Bukanga I want you to be patient with us on the issue of water.”
