Dr. Maggie Kigozi, a member of the Women’s Situation Room says violence in Uganda will not benefit anyone.
Women’s Situation Room is a women’s platform that aims at facilitate peace and dialogue during conflicts.
Maggie and her colleagues are trying to facilitate an understanding between the two main actors in the recent presidential elections-Yoweri Museveni and Kizza Besigye.
Appearing on NTV Newsnight Thursday, Maggie said they have already met Museveni, Besigye and their party leaders to that effect.
“What we want is peace, its women who suffer when there is war,” she said.
According to her, men are the first to run out to other countries in times of war leaving women and children behind to suffer.
“We are trying to prevent any kind of violence through dialogue.”
“Violence is not the solution,” she maintained, adding, “its absolutely key that we should have democracy.”
According to Maggie, there is always a loser in an election but it should be the majority that wins [unlike in Uganda where the majority say they were rigged out].
