Opposition leader Kizza Besigye has thrown his weight behind Makerere lecturer Stella Nyanzi who this morning staged a naked protest.
Nyanzi was protesting outside her locked office calling her boss, the executive director of Makerere University Institute of Social Research (MISR) Prof. Mahmoud Mamdani, an oppressor.
When Makerere Vice Chancellor Professor Ddumba Ssentamu attempted to talk to her, the irate Nyanzi told him off: “I’m handling the matter”.
She added: “I will not allow Dr. Mamdani to access his office until I can access mine. He is a criminal. I got in here on merit not as favour.”
She then put her clothes back on but chained herself to the gate until the authorities gave in and opened her office.FDC strongman Besigye lauded her efforts that have borne positive fruits.
“Winning by defiance,” Besigye [Nyanzi’s favourite candidate] said in a tweet.
“We are happy for her victory by defiance against injustice and unfairness,” FDC party also added in a statement.
Nyanzi has been heaping praises on Besigye ever since the commencement of campaigns for 2016 elections.
Speaking on the matter, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago extended his sympathies to Nyanzi for being allegedly oppressed.
“My sympathies are with Dr. Nyanzi. To see a professor reach extent of undressing, there is something more,” Lukwago said while appearing on NBS television.
Lukwago himself was locked out of his office at City Hall last week.
Meanwhile, social media critic Tom Voltaire Okwalinga aka TVO expressed his disappointment with Facebook management for blocking Nyanzi’s accounts.
