President Yoweri Museveni is currently in Busia eastern Uganda on his operation wealth creation campaign.
Museveni was welcomed by Forum for Democratic Change’s Hon Kevina Taaka [MP Busia] to Busia Municipality.
While addressing massive rally, Museveni told the fishing community in “Lake Victoria is here but it’s a dead lake because it has no fish.”
He asked the fishermen to help government to protect the lakes and other water reservoirs.
“We need to revamp them [lakes] for the future of the country’s fishing industry.”
He asked them to draw lessons from the cattle keepers who never eat female calves because they are the future of their herds as they are the ones that will produce and multiply the cattle stock.
Museveni said that fish produces and multiplies faster and if both the government and the fishing communities protected lakes, in a few months the lakes would regain their fishing potential.
He asked Busia elders to take leading role in protecting Lake Victoria from overfishing and the catching of immature fish.
“The army will support you. There is no more fish in our lake!” Museveni is quoted by presidential press secretary, Lindah Nabusayi, as saying.
