Veteran Zambian captain and striker Christopher Katongo put sword to Cranes throats to ensure the Chipolopolo qualify to the quarter finals, leaving the cranes at the mercy of Zimbabwe.
A powered header from Katonga on 41 minutes at Umuganda Stadium Rubavu, Rwanda saw Zambia surge ahead of the Miya-less Cranes. Uganda goalkeeper Kigonya had come to meet the ball, however he reached late in time for Katonga to nod home.
The victory makes Zambia the third team to qualify for quarterfinals with a game to spare. They join hosts Rwanda and on fire DRC. While Uganda will have to win Group D bottom occupants Zimbabwe and hope that Mali falls to Zambia.
