US General, UPDF chiefs discuss Somalia


A United States General, Maj Gen. Kurt L. Sonntag, the Commanding General of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) presided over the graduation of 136 UPDF officers and militants.

The soldiers completed Battalion Engineers and Company logistics courses at the Peace Support Operation Training Center in Nakaseke District.

The Commander of CJTF – HOA also visited the UPDF Headquarters in Mbuya where he met the UPDF Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt Gen Charles Angina together with other UPDF Chiefs.

They discussed among others, UPDF planned withdraw from Somalia and building capacity of the Somali National Army, according to army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda.

The national army is expected to leave Somalia in 2017 where they have been battling Al Shabaab militants.
