The US embassy in Kampala has issued a statement condemning the government for closing down social media.
This is happening the second time in a space of months.
It was first done in February during the presidential elections.
US came out strongly and pressurised government to restore the platforms including mobile money.
On Wednesday, government put off the platforms again claiming that opposition was plotting to ruin President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing in ceremony.
It also came after opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye reportedly took oath in Kampala as the “new president of the republic of Uganda”.
The social media blackout will persist until Thursday evening at the close of the close of Museveni’s swearing in ceremony.
