US ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac on Monday visited the parliament of Uganda.
She took a tour of the Chamber of Parliament.
Malac then met and held talks with the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
“Thanks to Kadaga for an informative meeting,” she later tweeted.
She added: “Enjoyed touring Parliament of Uganda and learning about its history.”
Malac praised parliament for its oversight role in Uganda’s democracy.
The US envoy has been at loggerheads with the government of Uganda for continuously attacking President Yoweri Museveni.
While addressing students in Kampala last week, Malac said Uganda cannot call itself a democracy when citizen’s rights are still trampled upon.Government responded dismissing her attacks and asserting that US had no right commenting on those who are perceived as undemocratic.
Even the presidential press secretary Lindah Nabusayi wrote a long article defending the president against the envoy’s remarks.
