Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) has passed out 23 drivers from the 3rd infantry at Mbale military barracks.
The pass out of the new batch of soldier drivers was presided over by the 3 Division commander, Brig Gen Dick Olum on Thursday.
This training initiative is aimed at enhancing efficiency in vehicle handling, driving and fleet management, Olum said.
He commended the soldiers for completing the three months basic training in driving course and warned them against stealing fuel.
He said the training of drivers internally would improve and help the force manage the vehicle fleets to enhance efficiency.
He further urged the soldiers to peaceful engage more in training, technical skills and productive ventures like operation wealth creation in order to alleviate poverty and transform livelihoods.
Speaking at the same event, the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) Elgon Region James Okumu Neema applauded the soldiers for attaining the minimum basic skills.
The non-commission officer’s basic drivers’ training saw at least three female soldiers graduate.
