Uganda People Defense Force (UPDF) soldier has shot dead four people, injured six others in Kaabong district and later committed suicide.
He was identified by army officials as Private George Angullo attached to 17th Battalion in Karenga, North of Kaabong district.
The incident occurred on Thursday at around 6pm at Karenga Trading Centre.
Lotyang Fidelis, a Parish Chief for Karenga told Uganda Radio Network that Angullo had picked a quarrel with his lover earlier in the day over money.
However, it was not clear what sparked off the indiscriminate shooting in which three women and one minor died.
Local authorities identified the dead as Imen Maricelina, Iluk Maricelina, Lokiru and another yet to be named.
Those critically injured are Lucy Namoru, Amadili Naboi and Agnes Nakiru.
Others are Regina Najonga, Everline Nakwang, Abodo Margret and Betty Akech all residents of Karenga parish.
The injured are now admitted at Karenga Health Centre IV.
Captain Telesphor Turyamumanya, the 5th Division spokesperson confirms the incident condemning it as not a tag to the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).
He adds that the institution aimed at protecting Ugandans and their property does not condone such acts.
In March 2015, a UPDF soldier shot dead a waitress, Faridah Shida, at Bibia parish, Atiak Sub-county, Amuru district.
The UPDF officer identified Lance Corporal is Kennedy Okumu, attached to Bibia barracks killed the woman over Shs 1,000.
In February 2014, Private Alfred Adrani, 42, a UPDF Officer attached to Alpha detach in Lakwana Sub County in Gulu district, shot dead a civilian Robert Bongonyinge.
He was sentenced to 15 years in jail by the Chairperson fourth division Court Martial Colonel Olanya Ojara.
