A soldier attached to the Uganda People’s Defence Force [UPDF] has died after a land explosion in Somalia.

Amos Mugisha died from wounds on Tuesday night after the vehicle he was travelling in ran over a land mine in Barawe, Somalia.

Together with his three colleagues; Jimmy Okello, Paul Kyakuse and Dennis Bwanika, the soldiers were airlifted aboard a UN aircraft and are admitted in a Nairobi hospital.

According to Kenyan media, Okello, Bwanika and Kyakuse were transferred by Amref ambulances to the hospital from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Mugisha was shortly pronounced dead by UPDF doctor Captain Richard Mwase.

The body was transferred to Lorna Funeral Home.

UPDF spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda, confirmed the report without giving details.

“Yes, its true. I can confirm,” Ankunda said when contacted on phone but declined to give more details.
