UPDF soldier arrested over illegal fire arm

A UPDF soldier attached to the 23rd battalion Kanyamirima detach in Bundibugyo district has been arrested for possession of an illegal fire arm.

The soldier was arrested by the police in Rukungiri district together with a boda-boda motorist on allegations of illegal possession of a fire arm.

The police spokesman for Kigezi sub region, Mr Elly Maate, said that the accused persons were arrested Thursday at Ncwera village along the Kihiihi –Kasese road by the police patrol unit attached to Rwenshama police post.

They suspects were found in possession of an SMG riffle with 30-rounds of ammunitions wrapped in a three-inch mattress.

“We are investigating to establish where they got it and for what purpose after which they will be produced in courts of law to answer charges accordingly,” Mr Maate said.
