UPDF soldier accused of stealing Besigye posters


Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] leaders in Nyakasharara sub county Kiruhura district have dragged a UPDF soldier to police for reportedly stealing their candidate’s campaign posters.

The case was reported at Kaguta Road police post on January 7, 2015 under case no. SD05/06/01/2016.

FDC officials accuse UPDF soldier, a one Major Alice Kukundakwe [aka Rutakara] of Kyakabunga village, Nyakasharara s/county, of criminal trespass and threatening violence.

According to the police file, Maj Kukundakwe on January 6, 2015, broke into FDC offices in Kiruhura district in an operation that saw Kizza Besigye’s campaign materials such as posters, T shirts, and P10 cards confiscated.

The Major reportedly told off the opposition politicians that she “does not want FDC offices in the district”.

At the close of 2015, Police raided Eden Guest House, in Fort Portal town and confiscated Besigye’s campaign materials ahead of his campaign in Kabarole district.

In 2010, heavily armed anti-riot police personnel raided the FDC offices in Tororo to disperse a group of youths who were planning to stage anti Electoral Commission protests.

The policemen assaulted the youths and also confiscated official FDC documents, posters and other materials that they were planning to use in the demonstration.
