Uganda people’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has opened fire into a crowd killing five people on spot.
The incident happened Friday afternoon in Hima township a few kilometres outside Kasese town.
Those killed were part of about 20 civilians who attacked UPDF reportedly trying to steal guns.
The soldiers and the attackers ended up in a confrontation.
In the scuffle, the soldiers then opened fire on the attackers killing five on the spot.
The army spokesman Lt Col Paddy Ankunda was not readily available for a comment as his known phone number was switched off.
