Cabinet held a special meeting Tuesday 15 September 2015, to pay tribute to Hon Gen Aronda Nyakairima, who passed away suddenly on 12 September 2015, and to receive a brief from the Task Force led by Defence Minister, Hon Dr Crispus Kiyonga, on the arrangements so far made for burial.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by The Prime Minister, Rt Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.
Dr Kiyonga informed Cabinet that Government had on Saturday 12 September 2015 dispatched a team of doctors led by the Chief of Medical Services in the UPDF, Dr James Makumbi, together with two family members, namely, Mr Henry Ngabirano and Mrs Jolly Ngabirano, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to work with the authorities there to conduct investigations and to repatriate the body.
Cabinet acknowledged and saluted the significant contribution the late Gen Aronda made to the country’s stability and the unity of the people of Uganda.
Cabinet, however, noted that some elements of society, including some senior leaders in the country were using the tragic passing on of Gen Aronda, to spread falsehoods, negative and sectarian sentiments aimed at inciting and dividing the people of Uganda.
Cabinet strongly condemned such acts.
Generals to escort Aronda
Meanwhile as is the norm in the army, when an army officer dies, members of his ranks have to escort him or her to his or her graveyard.
The similar norm is expected to be performed home the fallen former army commander Gen Aronda during his send off at his ancestral home in Rukungiri on Sunday 20, 2015.
In the same way the remaining 7 UPDF surviving generals will carry the casket containing the body of late Gen Aronda up to his rest place there after his body is lowered into the grave and after the UPDF officers will give him a 21 gun salute and will be hurried in his military fatigue as an army culture.
The generals expected to escort late Aronda’s body to his rest place include Gen Yoweri Museveni, Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Salim Saleh, Gen Elly Tumwine,Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, Gen Jeje Odongo, Gen Ali, Gen Kale Kayihura and probably Gen David Tinyefuza alias Sejusa.
Gen Aronda who died in an emirates airline business class enroute from South Korea will touch down at Entebbe airport today at 1pm and will Thursday lie in Parliament for public viewing in the morning then Friday go for prayers at Kololo Independence Park and thereafter be flown to his ancestral home in Rukungiri for burial.
