Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party’s National Deputy Secretary for Mobilisation, Mr Dan Oola Odiya has been charged with treason.
Odiya was charged on Tuesday afternoon and remanded to Gulu central prison.
Police on Wednesday last week arrested Odiya, who doubles as UPC party spokesperson for Acholi sub-region on Coronation Road in Gulu Town as he walked home at around 8pm.
He had earlier on been reported to have been abducted by unknown men who bundled him a vehicle as he headed home.
Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema is however quoted then to have said Odiya was arrested by police on a very sensitive crime following high placed intelligence.
He was being detained at Gulu Central Police station for interrogation.
He is among the more than 30 people including soldiers and opposition party members detained and questioned over their alleged links to an unnamed rebel group.
Police Chief Kale Kayihura, while addressing the media Monday this week said the arrests are not in any way linked to post February 2016 election violence.
According to General Kayihura, police has intelligence that there are some people involved in subversive activities with the intention of removing the establishment.
