Police in Masaka district has arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of Fedinato Jjumba Kamyu, Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] Party chairperson for Bukoto East Constituency.
The suspect, Emmanuel Lubega, a resident of Kanywa village in Buwunga Sub County was arrested on Wednesdaymorning.
The UPC official was found dead on his farm in Kanywa village in Buwunga Sub County on Monday morning.
He had a smashed face and huge cuts on his head.
According to Uganda Radio Network, this morning, angry residents stormed Lubega’s home attempted to set him and his house ablaze.
They accused him of masterminding the killing of Jjumba, which prompted police to swing in action.
Residents clashed with the officers, accusing the force of failing to arrest Lubega despite report linking him to the killing of Jjumba because of their long standing dispute over a five acre piece of land.
Bukeeri LC1 chairperson Gerald Mayanja, said Kamyu had misunderstandings with his grandchildren and some squatters over a two-acre piece of land where he was killed.
The warring parties had agreed to meet on June 29 to resolve the dispute.
Kamyu’s body was taken to Masaka Regional Referral hospital for a post-mortem.
