UNRA drags city businessman Senkeeto to court over Shs18b for Katosi road

Uganda Notional Roads Authority (UNRA) has dragge Kampala City businessman Apollo Senkeeto to court for allegedly stealing Shs18.7b meant for the construction of Mukono-Katosi road.

Senkeeto is currently facing several criminal charges jointly with former works minister Eng. Abraham Byandala over the Katosi road project scam that unravelled last year and led to the sacking of the entire UNRA employees.

According to the civil suit filed before the Commercial Court Division of the High Court, UNRA is seeking to recover the said money which was part of the over Shs24b given to Eutaw construction company which Senkeeto represented as the country director.

According to the documents, Senkeeto uttered false documents and obtained the daid money after which he subcontracted another company to do the work on Eutaw’s behalf contrary to the procedures of the original contract with UNRA.

UNRA contends that the subcontracted company only did work worth Shs6b leaving shs18.7b as balance.

The authority therefore wants the city tycoon to refund the daid money and meet costs of the suit.

Senkeeto is required to file his defence in 15days, failure of which court will rule in favour of the roads authority.
