Buganda Road Court has sent Atuhaire Brian a member of National Association of the Unemployed Youth [NAU] to Luzira prisons on remand.
Brian was arrested with other seven unemployed youths on Kampala streets on 27th October 2014 for taking part in unlawful assembly.
They were first charged in Nakawa court and later transferred to Buganda road court in Kampala.
They were granted a cash bail worth Shs500,000 each by trial magistrate, Ms Joan Aciro.
The suspects are; Doreen Nyanjura, Habib Buwebo, Brian Atuhaire, Robin Wabulembo, Bethurl Kawungi, Joweria Nakyeyune and Dickson Aineomugisha.
Prosecution states that on October 27, at the City Square in Kampala, the suspects and others still at large with intent to disturb peace assembled with a common purpose and conducted themselves in such a manner that caused the neighbourhood reasonable fear that they would breach peace.
When Brian returned to court Tuesday, the magistrate cancelled his bail for failure to attend court and remanded to Luzira Prison until 12th February 2016.
Brian explained that he missed the court last month due to illness with Malaria and was very far from Kampala [he was in Kanungu] but this did not help.
The court went ahead to nullify his bail and dispatch him to jail.
His colleagues claim that government is “on a mission to systematically silence the voices of our comrades, because we have been a thorn in the flesh of the regime in the social media”.
This is the article Brian wrote before his detention:
Before I went to sleep last night a friend of mine called me and told me NRM had dispatched one billion to work on us (opposition) on social media.
I laughed because any way we have always beaten them with the money.
No one gives me money to tweet for FDC, Facebook or write a blog. I do these things at my leisure voluntarily.
I am sure my good social media activists like Shawn Mubiru Moses Atocon Atyekwo Kakwenza Rukirabasaija Samuel Makokha W’Mugeni Byamugyisha Moses and many others have never been given money to promote our good candidate Wrn Kizza-Besigye. So we know your money has come.
When the worst come to the worst I will instead go for social pack. But we are going to work on you and even the one billion will appear to have been misused.
Any way most if these NRM kids can’t tweet well, their blogs have less traffic etc.
