The new multi-billion shilling building which houses the headquarters of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), is up for sale.
According to NTV, within a period of 30 days, if the government agency does not settle a Shs3.5 billion debt, the building will be sold to the highest bidder.
According to an order granted by the deputy registrar of the High Court Executions and Bailiff Division, the property has been advertised for auction in the newspapers.
Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Centre, sued UNBS for breach of contract signed in 2008.
Under the contract, the firm was mandated to undertake pre-inspection of used cars in Japan before export to Uganda.
The firm was mandate to conduct free importation and verification of vehicles coming to Uganda especially those in a dangerous mechanical condition.
In the notice for sale published in Daily Monitor on Monday Nile general auctioneers upon instruction of Nsubuga and company advocates gave UNBS only 30 days to settle the debt or vacate the building.
