Dr. Atai Annae Omoruto, the Ugandan doctor and expert on Ebola has died, reports state-run New Vision.
Atai led the Ebola team of Ugandans in the fight against the deadly disease in Liberia.
“The Ministry of Health, with deep regret and sorrow announces the death of Ebola expert Dr. Atai Omuroto- the doctor who led a team of Ugandans who went to offer expatriate services in the fight against Ebola in Liberia,” a statement from the health ministry reads.
Dr. Omuroto was among the 11 personalities headed by President Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, that were on the frontline of the Ebola fight in Liberia which was worst hit by the epidemic in 2014.
Dr. Omuroto was voted among the best West African personalities for her commendable work done in the fight against Ebola.
Dr. Omuroto succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Wednesday 04 May, 2016.
“May her soul rest in eternal peace.”
