Ugandans would kill me even before stepping out of my Kasangati gate to join President Yoweri Museveni’s government, Kizza Besigye has said.
He was on Thursday evening appearing on KFM “Hot Seat” programme.
Besigye said Government is now committing each and every resource to deal with his defiance campaign.
“They starve all departments to deal with what we are doing. You can see that if we were not potent to have hundred of soldiers to keep me here.”
He narrated that when he went to town on Wednesday, it was as if it was war.
“Teargas, mambas…close roads because Besigye wants to go there. Me, I just leave my house alone with no stone. I just carry my phone and move.”
Besigye clarified that the government is not afraid of him but “they are afraid of citizens”.
“People see me as a rallying point. If today I announce that I have seen the light let me go and be the Prime Minister…I cannot move out of the gate…they will stone me. They will kill me.”
He continued: “I am a servant of the people. Everywhere Ssebaggala was on..every one used to say Hajji alagidde..He fears to go around because they will stone him.”
Besigye revealed that even his family understands where he has come from.
“… even my immediate family. It does traumatise them especially the children but they fully understand and support what I am doing.”
Besigye said if the country does not change, his family too will have no future.
“If we give up now we would have betrayed many. My brother is in grave.
If we give up we will have betrayed all those people.”
He observed that there is no way Mr. Museveni can sustain what he is doing.
” When he gets a visitor he closes the roads. Lets remain firm the change is coming..Do not forget the swagger.”
