Ugandans have a right to address Besigye as their president- LoP

Ugandans have a right to address former Forum for Democratic Change Dr Kizza Besigye as their president, Winny Kiiza, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament has said.

According her, Dr Besigye defeated Museveni in the February 2016 elections but was cheated and therefore, Ugandans refused to accept Yoweri Museveni as their president.

“People have the right to address Besigye as their President because they voted for him in numbers,” she said.

She made the remarks in Tuesday at FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi.

She was reacting to the manner in which police yesterday arrested Besigye just as he was  alighting the plane shortly after it had landed and drove him to his home in Kasangati, Wakiso district before deploying heavily at his house.

According to Kiiza, Besigye was arrested by Special Force command disguised as Entebbe Civil Aviation officers.

“The special Forces Command is now taking over Police’s role, as they took over command of Besigye’s arrival,” she added.

According to her, Museveni’s government state agents like police have continued to commit crimes against the opposition with impunity.
