Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga has lashed at government for feeding Ugandans on wrong information about the state of the economy.
“Being given wrong economic information is a problem that has bedeviled this country into an abyss,” Mpuuga said on Monday while appearing on NBS TV.
He insisted there is no economy that grows between 5-6% for 10 years with a population growth of 2.8-3% and fails to register 2% job growth.
“Our economy figures are manipulated by those in charge to fit the political times and please certain people.”
According to Mpuuga, government is the biggest borrower and banks see it as a safe borrower, leaving little to no money for private borrowers.
“Government says economy is growing but domestic revenue has been shrinking. It is negative.”
He added: “We hardly export anything while we import almost everything. Our economy is in negatives.”
Mpuuga maintained there is a big problem when government work must be explained, not seen.
