Uganda will be corrupt-free, Museveni tells French

President Museveni attended the French National Day Celebrations (Bastille Day) at the French Ambassador’s residence on Nakasero hill in Kampala City.
Bastille Day is celebrated annually on July 14 in France and the French-speaking regions around the world to commemorate the starting of the French Revolution in 1789.

More than 200 years on, the day is still a central event in the French nation’s calendar, with a diversity of celebrations, including magnificent military parade in Paris, the capital of the French nation.

President Museveni described the storming of the Bastille in 1789, as a very important event that had a global significance that later witnessed the metamorphosis of societies.

“When I come here at Bastille Day it is because of its historical importance. As someone who follows history, I know the importance of this day,” he declared.

Mr. Museveni said that Uganda and Africa are interested in working with Europe and the rest of the world, mainly in the areas of trade for prosperity, investment, tourism and security, among others.

He added that his coming to celebrate Bastille Day was a mark of solidarity between the people of Uganda and the French fraternity.

He called on French companies as well as those from other partner countries to come and invest in Uganda.

He assured them that the problem of corruption will be dealt with decisively.

“Some French companies have come here and we want more to come. We have been having a problem of corruption; some of our thieves have been inconveniencing these companies. However, I want to assure you that in this term, corrupt people are an endangered species in Uganda. We want Uganda to be corrupt free,” he vowed.

The French Ambassador to Uganda, Ms. Sophie Makame, commended President Museveni for personally coming to celebrate with the French community saying that it was a sign of confidence shared by the two countries and the diversification of the relations between Uganda and France.

She happily noted that a series of partnerships between Uganda and her country have flourished over the years.
