Uganda has signed a framework contract with the Germany Company, GAUFF Engineering, to develop an inland harbour at Bukasa on Lake Victoria.
The harbour will pave way to an alternative route connecting the central corridor to the port of Dar es salaam.
This will reduce over dependence on the northern corridor route which leads to the port of Mombasa.
The signing ceremony took place in WAPA Auditorium at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The PS of Ministry of Works, Mr. Alex Bwangamoi Okello signed on behalf of Uganda Government while Eng. Stefan Bollow, signed on behalf of Gauff Engineering Company.
The ceremony was witnessed by Hon Sam Kutesa, Minister of Foreign Affairs together with his counterpart H.E Dr. Frank Walter Steinmeier.
Also present were Hon Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance, Hon John Byabagambi, Minister of works and Hon D’ujanga Simon, Minister of State for Energy as well as the Germany business delegation.
Prior to the signing of the framework, Minister Sam Kutesa held bi-lateral meeting with his counterpart H.E Dr. Frank Walter Steinmeier in Mweya board room at MOFA.
Hon Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance, Hon Philemon Mateke , State Minister for Regional Cooperation and Hon D’ujanga Simon, Minister of State for Energy as well as the Germany delegation attended the meeting.
