Uganda and Russia have signed an Inter-Governmental Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hon Okello Oryem Ag. Minister of Foreign Affairs signed on behalf of Uganda Government while H.E Alexey Volin, the Vice Minister of Telecom and Mass Communication of the Russian Federation signed on behalf Russian Government.
The Agreement is an important mechanism for expanding and deepening cooperation between two countries.
The priority areas of cooperation include economic and investment, energy, Agriculture, oil and gas, water and environment and ICT among others.
To witness the signing were Minister of Water and Environment Hon. Prof Ephraim Kamuntu and Hon. Bright Rwamirama and other senior government officials.
Hon Oryem Okello commended Russia for cooperation with Uganda and noted that the established commission will be a gate way for more business between the two countries.
Alexey Volin on his part said that the agreement should be a way to remove all the obstacles to business between the two countries.
He underscored the importance of the agreement as the opening to the Russian technologies to be used in Uganda.
