Uganda joins Kenya to mourn Lucy Kibaki

The government of Uganda has joined Kenyans to mourn the passing of former First Lady Lucy Kibaki.

Lucy passed on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London where she had been admitted after a long illness.

Lucy had been transferred to the hospital after a month-long stay at Nairobi Hospital.

Uganda’s ministry of Internal Affairs said in a social media message: “We mourn with Kenya the death of their former first lady Lucy Kibaki. May her soul rest in peace.”

Lucy and her husband Mwai Kibaki were close allies of Uganda during their 2002-2013 tenure.

In 2012, Makerere University on its 62nd Graduation Ceremony awarded Honorary Doctorate of Laws to Kibaki who actually studied at the then Makerere College (now Makerere University) on a scholarship programme.

Kibaki later graduated in 1955 with a First Class Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, History and Political Science.
