Uganda are the winners of the 2015 Africa Zone VI Golf Championship which climaxed at the Par-72 Uganda Golf, Kitante Course in Kampala on Saturday.
Skippered by Adolf Muhumuza Uganda finished the day on 18.5 points, while the South African team who have won 19 titles before came second on 17.5 points.
“This is the best win ever. We are very happy and glad that the boys worked so hard and have made sure the trophy remains here,” said winning coach Amos Kamya.
South Africa’s Teagan Gauche and Namibia’s Paul Ndeilenga were disqualified for failure to arrive on time.
Two Ugandans, Robert Oluba and Ronald Otile lost their games before the 6 other players on the team all won their games in different fashion.
South African captain Tristen Strydom told URN that it’s unfortunate they failed to defend the title, but added that they will return next year a stronger side.
Zimbabwe who bagged 16.5 points finished third, while kenya on 15.5 points were fourth.
The other teams that participated included; Zambia (5th), Swaziland (5th), Botswana (7th), Malawi (8th) and Namibia.
