A ruling party yellow chopper made a surprise landing at Booma grounds in Fort Portal where Amama Mbabazi is scheduled to hold a rally today.
Aboard the chopper was Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde who is part of President Yoweri Museveni’s 2016 campaign team.
There are many interpretations to the incident.
JPAM communications director, Josephine Nkangi, says cynically that Tumukunde was “checking on Mbabazi’s team”.
“Tumukunde passes by to congratulate Go Forward team on work in progress…Ahem #AmamaTrail Kabarole,” Nkangi said in a tweet.
Other members of JPAM team say the move was meant to disorganise Mbabazi’s supporters who were already waiting for him at the venue.
“Why would Museveni’s Chopper land in Boma grounds a place meant to Host Amama Mbabazi’s Rally in Fort Portal?” asks NBS TV journalist, Remmy Bahati.
She says Amama’s supporters who did not wait to see who was coming from the chopper left in anger claiming Amama fooled them and instead sent Museveni to represent him.
Bahati also quotes Amama saying Museveni is playing circus [sic] on him and is failing to accept the fact that he took a different path.
Tumukunde is said to have entered a certain office at Booma grounds and then left.
Earlier, Kabarole RDC Steven Asiimwe and a group of crime preventers were accused of defacing Amama posters and replacing them with those of Museveni.
Nkangi called the move “politics of intolerance”.
Meanwhile, Amama made a stopover at Kyegegwa to address residents before proceeding to Fort Portal town.
