Transport fares double as Uganda votes


Transport fares to different parts of the country have more than doubled as people rush home to vote for their favourite presidential and parliamentary candidates.

Travellers heading to Masaka are paying between Shs20,000 and Shs25,000 up from Shs.12, 000.

Those going to Fort portal are paying Shs40,000 up from Shs 35,000.

People going to Rukungiri are paying between Shs50,000 and Shs60,000, up from Shs25,000.

Buses travelling to Mbarara are now charging between Shs40,000 and Shs50,000 up from Shs15,000.

Transport fares to some upcountry locations had doubled as public transport gets scarce in Kampala.

The new Fares from Kampala by February 16, 2016 were; Rukungiri Shs50,000, Mbarara Shs35,000, Masaka  Shs30,000, Fort Portal Shs40,000, Kanungu Shs60,000 and Mbale Shs20,000.
