At least 150 million shillings has been robbed on gun point in the last three months, police has said.
Mr Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said most of the robberies were conducted in Wakiso district, adding that majority of victims were traders and mobile money operators.
According to Mr Enanga Police Flying Squad Unit killed six thugs in Wakiso district over the weekend. These were part of the gangs that have robbed over Shs150m from trader since this year began.
Police identified the deceased as Tom Lukwago a resident of Kawempe, Silimini Kawuma a resident of Kabowa, Yasin Lutwama, Alliance Muko a resident of Nansana, Vincent Jingo a resident of Nkoye Wakiso and Benard Ssekitoleko a resident of Kazo in Kawempe Division.
Enanga further explained that police recovered three guns from criminals and are hunting for the two who are still at large.
He said further noted that police acted on a tip from its intelligence unit.
The victims of these robberies among others include; Maseruka traders in Matugga (Wakiso), who were robbed Shs100, one Isimba dam consultant was robbed Shs40m, Fred Kazibwe was robbed Shs1.5m, Abdul Noor Matovu was robbed Shs1.6m, Jogo traders robbed were Shs2.5m.
On Thursday last week, robbers armed with two Ak-47 guns and a pistol terrorized Nangabo Sub-county, Wakiso district where they robbed three shops consecutively.
