The more than 100 people killed in fresh Kasese clashes were murderers, police has said.
Police spokesperson, Andrew Kaweesi on Tuesday told journalists in Kasese that all those killed in Kasese were in combat.
“There was no innicent killing of people like some people have been saying. Those who were killed stood the risk of being in combat. That’s why we also lost several of our officers. We pay tribute to our fallen collected,” he said.
At least 14 police officers have been killed following fresh Rwenzori clashes and more than 100 civilians and Rwenzururu total guards killed in fierce fighting with the UPDF and police.
According to Kaweesi, the more than 150 arrested during the raid on the Buhikira Royal palace in Kasese town are murderers.
Several people including royal guards and the Rwenzururu king Charles Wesley Mumbere were arrested in the Sunday raid.
“Mumbere is safe in police custody at Nalufenya police Station in Jinja. All those who were arrested are murderers. Don’t talk about their rights. How about the rights of the people they killed?”responded Kaweesi when asked about the status of the king and other suspects who have been in police custody to more than the constitutional 48 hours.
