Jacob Kiplimo won the 10000m bronze in the World Junior Athletics Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland on Tuesday.
This young man was able to finish in third place in a record time of 27:26.68 winning bronze after Kenya’s Rodgers Kwenoi who finished first place and took gold and Ethiopia’s Aron Kifle who finished second and scooped the silver medal.
Kiplimo not only passes as the youngest Ugandan to have ever qualified for such games but also sets a ground breaking record that at first attempt in the championships, he brings a medal home.
This medal happens to be the 11th won by a Ugandan at these championships. The last one was brought home by Joshua Cheptegei who won a 10000m God medal in 2014.
Kiplimo has now qualified to travel with Team Uganda’s Global Medalists to Brazil where he will be privileged to compete against Jacob Cheptegei and Phillip Kipyeko in 5000m.
