Tanzania authorities are currently working with their Ugandan counterparts to track and re-arrest Ugandan convict, William Muwanguzi aka Pastor Kiwedde, who escaped from prison.

Kiwedde escaped from Mutukula prison two months ago and is suspected to have crossed into Tanzania.

Denis Mbaine, the OC of Mutukula Police station told Uganda Radio Network Kiwedde fled to Mwanza or Bukoba in Tanzania.

Uganda Prisons Service spokesperson, Frank Baine, also told URN they are working closely with their Tanzanian authorities and Interpol to re-arrest Kiwedde.

According to Baine, Uganda could not send teams to pursue the convict in foreign territory and would instead use Tanzania police.

It was Tanzanian authorities that back in the year helped arrest and extradite ADF rebel commander, Jamil Mukulu.

Kiwedde who was serving a 5-year jail term; two years for impersonation and three years for attempted escape from Kalisizo prison, is now being tracked by Tanzania police.

In November 2013, Kiwedde was arrested in Kalisizo town council where he had gone to extort money, posing as a Catholic priest from Kenya with a one Julius Mukasa.

Kalisizo Grade One Magistrate Susan Awidi sentenced him to 23 months in prison for impersonation.
