National Resistance Movement (NRM) has cleared 128 aspirants to take part in the primaries as flag bearers.
The NRM Electoral Commission chairman, Dr.Tanga Odoi, said 20 cases were withdrawn by members who had petitioned while other petitions were dismissed.
Notable among the cleared is Tanga’s “archenemy” and minister of Trade, Amelia Kyambadde.
The two NRM cadres sometime back nearly went physical with each other at the party headquarters.
Tanga said Amelia tried to get her rival in the Mawokota north race disqualified.
Amelia accused Tanga of working to destroy the party from within.
It took the intervention of President Yoweri Museveni, the party chairman, to restrain the pair.
NRM clears MPs and ministers
Meanwhile, NRM also cleared Sembabule Woman MP Hanifa Kawooya, former Rubaga Division chairperson Peter Ssematimba, Hajji Muyanja Mbabaali, Kasolo Robert, Mugisha Godfrey, Abalo Lillian Ongom, Chemtai Winfred, Oseku Richard, Waboya Vincent and Ayo Jacinta, Minister Rukia Nakadama, Syda Bbumba, Joy Kabatsi, and Herman Sentongo, to mention but a few.
20 other aspirants have pulled out of the race.
The candidature of 7 members was nullified including Nakifuma MP, Kafeero Sekitoleko, for lack of academic qualifications.
Tanga ordered Kafeero to cease campaigning immediately.
Yet, Kafeero says court has already cleared him to proceed with the race.
Reminding aspirants that he will not be intimidated, Tanga said those dissatisfied should go to court.
