Ordinarily, it would be the state attorney prosecuting criminals in court after police has gathered enough evidence to pin them.
However, in this case, court in Kampala sentenced a state attorney to one year imprisonment after he was found guilty of soliciting a bribe from a court client.
Edward Bamulutira was today (Tuesday) sent to Luzira prison by Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala for soliciting 400,000 shillings in a case he was prosecuting as an aid to release a suspect on bail. The case involved a suspect who had been arrested and charged with criminal trespass.
The grade one magistrate of the Kololo-based court, Ms Rachael Nakyazze also ordered Bamulutira who was convicted last week to pay a fine of 200,000 shillings.
According to evidence presented in court, Bamulutira between May 22 and 27, 2012 in Arua District while employed by the DPP as a state prosecutor, solicited and received the said money a one Moses Anguyo as an inducement to aid the release of his brother on bail following his arrest on charges of criminal trespass.
