Police are investigating the shooting of one SPLA soldier at Yei joint operations base on Monday.
The deceased was among a group of soldiers who arrived recently from Juba to monitor the security situation in the area.
Yei’s CID Director Captain Garang Macok told Radio Tamazuj the incident happened in the operation base of the soldiers.
“We heard a sound of a rifle and when we arrived at the place of the incident, we found that somebody was killed. We have arrested and put the suspect into custody and investigation is going on to find out the motive on the killing.”
Meanwhile, two senior SPLA officers killed each other after exchanging fire in Mayendit County in South Sudan’s newly established Southern Liech state.
Peter Makuoth Malual, the appointed information minister, told Radio Tamazuj that a fight erupted between a lieutenant colonel and a colonel who was serving in the SPLA Division 5 in Mayendit County.
The officers opened fire on each other after a quarrel between them.
They all died on spot.
