First Woman Vice President in Uganda and Africa, H.E Specioza Wandira, yesterday attended President Yoweri Museveni’s sole candidature celebrations.
Organised by Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, the NRM national treasurer, the event included a thanksgiving ceremony hosted at Semuto in Nakaseke district.
Specioza graced the event and was photographed having a light moment with Hon Kirunda Kivejinja, a veteran Ugandan politician and senior presidential advisor.
She was later seen dancing with grand-daughter.
Meanwhile, seated behind her was Sarah Kagingo, a former Communications Assistant to president Museveni.
Specioza often turned to talk to Kagingo like a mother talking to her daughter.
The former Makerere University Guild President is highly credited for digitizing State House communications.
Kagingo is the director at Soft Power Communications, a public relations firm and heads the communications department of Operation Wealth Creation Programme.
Lost and found?
Specioza Naigaga Wandira Kazibwe, a surgeon and politician is also referred to as “Nnalongo”, because of her twin daughters.
She was Vice President of Uganda from 1994 to 2003.
She was the first woman in Africa to hold the position of vice-president of a sovereign nation.
In August 2013, she was appointed by the United Nations’s Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon as United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Critics agree although she fell from favour, Specioza has played it cool and survived over the years.
